I'm pretty sure Kelly Kapowski was onto something when she did the forecast way back when. In fact, she was such a good weather(wo)man she nailed D.C.'s weather this week, fifteen years later. It's been wild round these parts; cool and crisp in the morning, warm and balmy in the afternoon. Rainy and windy one minute, gorgeous the next. Incidentally my looks have changed almost as frequently as Kelly's in the clip above. Layer upon light layer has been the name of the game this week. Here's a few of my favorites weather-driven looks.
When Kelly tossed on a hot pink winter coat for colder weather, I paired a hot pink long sleeve top with one of my favorite polka dot skirts, black tights and booties.
Top - Forever 21, Skirt - Old Navy, Tights/Bracelets - Target, Booties - Steve Madden, Purse - Hype, Earrings - Craft Fair |
It finally warmed up one day and Kelly shed her puffer jacket for a black and neon bathing suit. As no one needs to see me in a high-cut bathing suit, I simply reverted back to sleeveless tops and ballet flats.
Top - Target ($4!), Jeans - J Brand, Necklace - Ann Taylor Loft, Shoes - Old Navy - ($4 too!), Bag - Cole Haan, Bracelets - Gifts |
We had several days of windy, cold rain and unlike Kelly, I did my best to avoid freezing and getting drenched with a blazer and scarf.
Blazer - Gap, Black Tee/Scarf - Target, Jeans - Marmalade, Flats - Tory Burch, Hoop Earrings - Filene's Basement |
Since it was storming outside and I had newly straightened hair, I grabbed my J.Lo-esque hat to head out for the Phillie's game/dinner/a friend's birthday drinks.
Hat - Marshalls, Purse - Dooney & Burke (gift from my Mother in Law) |
In conclusion, I think we can all learn a thing or two from Ms. Kapowski; Zack is a total hunk, neon is hot again and dressing for the weather is the best way to stay comfortable during this transitional season. How do you match your wardrobe to the changing weather patterns that fall brings?

HAHA Cara, this post is fab girl. I loved Kelly and Zack. I layer as you do! Mother nature has been bi-polar for awhile, so you never know what she will come up with. Your outfits are great. I love the pink & black color combination. Your olive green sleeveless top is too cute. LOVE that gold necklace!!! And I love great hats. Your J.Lo floppy hat is very stylish and chic girl. Three great looks. :D

Oh man! Saved by the Bell takes me WAY back! Bright pink is a great color on you. Love the gold necklace with olive green--I'd wear this whole look. You look effortless!
Where I live, the weather can change a quite drastically in a single day. One minute it's raining, next minute it's sunny... so dressing in layers that allow for shedding throughout the day works best!
You are too cute! Saved by the Bell was a great show! Yes, Zack was a hunk for sure.
Loving all of these outfits, can't decide a favorite! Your red purse is fab :)
Your outfit is super cute!! I love the pops of color. Even though I have never been a fan of "Saved by the Bell" (I have seen plenty of episodes, though, since my Mr. A is obsessed), Kelly definitely had the eye for fashion.

We should all dress like 90s TV characters. Personally, I thought Clarissa was super stylish.
I had to think about dressing for the weather more when I lived in the mid-West. My wardrobe was a lot larger when I had to have clothes for snow, sun, rain, and everything in between.
I love your J-Lo hat! I'm interested in her new clothing line for Kohls. Did you straighten your hair yourself?
Have a great weekend!
When I wake up in the morning...haha doesn't that song bring back such great memories! You look awesome in all 3 outfits, I especially love the last outfit! Have a great weekend and we have SUN in Chicago today :D
I love the reference to Saved by the Bell! Oh, the childhood memories...
Love all 3 outfits but the fact that you got that shirt from Target for $4 is awesome. Love the necklace in that outfit as well.
I love all of these outfits especially the red pants, blazer and polka dot scarf. I love throwing on a chunky sweater with boots for fall and then adding a cute scarf when winter comes around.
I am loving those red jeans. I definitely need a pair!

OMG Kelly K...Love it! That polka dot scarf is gorgeous!
You totally look like Kelly! She was a true inspiration for all of us 80s kids. Thank goodness for Target...I love both the polka dot scarf and the army green shirt. It's kind of embarrassing to admit, but I am just now getting into leggings. Throw them under a summer dress, add a cardigan and you're good to go! Not sure why it took me so long to adopt this trend.
