Wednesday's Wardrobe: Looks for Lecture

I have fallen into a rhythm with teaching, and incidentally, dressing the part.  Most mornings I pair a printed dress with some sort of blazer, long cardigan or vest.  Since I still look on the young side, I rely on the knee length hemlines and structured jackets to set me apart from my students.  I think its working so far, I feel more confident each and every lecture. Dare I say, I really am enjoying my stint as a Professor! Here are a few looks I've taught in over the past week.

  Lecture last week:
Dress - Marshall's, Jacket - Ann Taylor Loft, Shoes - Target, Bag - Kate Spade, Pearls - Gifts

Lecture today:
Dress - Maggy London, Blazer - Nordstrom, Shoes - Target, Bag - Gift (Dooney & Burke)

Truth be told I did not teach in this as its far too casual but it's in the same vein of that printed dress/vest uniform I have quickly adopted.  I never knew how versatile this military vest would be!
Vest - Old Navy, Tank - H&M, Dress - Forever 21, Shoes - Anthropologie, Necklace - Craft Fair

I'm hoping to do some transitional looks in the next few weeks, I cannot believe Fall is almost here for real! What are you most excited to wear?

Wednesday's Wardrobe: Head of the Class

As I mentioned yesterday, I'm teaching a college course this fall in the mornings before heading into the office for a full day of work. Needless to say, the wardrobe requirements for the classroom is quite different when you move from behind the desk to in front of the class. I need to look professional while also sporting clothes I can be comfortable in for 14-15 hour days.  I have been relying heavily on breezy skirts, breathable tanks and layering pieces like cardigans and blazers...and flat shoes.  I have been so nervous lecturing my legs have been shaky so I'm too afraid to sport heels.

For meetings at both school and work:
Sweater - Anthropologie, Scarf - Nordstrom, Dress - GAP, Shoes - Sofft via Nordstrom, Earrings - Laila Rowe

First Day of School!
Blazer - Old Navy, Shirt - Ann Taylor Loft, Skirt- Penguin brand via Loehmans, Shoes - Old Navy, Necklace - Eastern Market, Earrings - Gift
So excited to be teaching!

Lecturing on a hot pre-holiday weekend Friday:
Sweater - Ann Taylor Loft, Shirt-Anthropologie, Skirt - Marshalls, Shoes - Steve Madden, Scarf - Nordstrom, Necklace - Ann Taylor Loft

Have you ever taught a lecture or a course or even given a presentation?  What wardrobe staples do you rely on?

Wardrobe Wednesday: Just Cruising

This is the last time I will make reference to my vacation on this space, I promise!  While I spent most of my week on the cruise looking like this:

or this:

or this:

I did wear some cute clothes on board when I wasn't freezing/hiking/whale watching. Here's a few outfits from our days and nights on board and in port. We had two formal dinners on the ship so I rocked my beloved lace and feathered frock from our friend's wedding last winter.

Dress - Jessica Simpson, Shoes/Sunglasses - Cole Haan

I wore this outfit on our last sea day and whale-watching in Victoria, British Columbia because it was the warmest day we had all week after we left Seattle.

Hat/Earrings - Forever 21, Tank - Filene's Basement, Shirt- Marshall's, Skirt - Target, Sandals - Ross, Necklace - Gift, Sunglasses - RayBan via Nordstrom

I'm so glad I wore these pink pants and sleveless ruffle top in Seattle as we departed because I wouldn't have been able to otherwise.  These pants are on super sale at Loft (or they were at the beginning of the month.)

Shirt/Capris - Ann Taylor Loft, Jacket - Old Navy, Shoes - Ross, Purse - Macy's, Sunglasses - RayBan via Nordstrom

How's your week going? I'm so glad it's almost Thursday! If you are heading back to school (or not) and need some new duds use this coupon code (CA20ASH) and stop by eShakti.com before August 31st!

Wednesday's Wardrobe: Yellow Crush

Sometimes I have crushes on a color, and when that happens I tend to wear out that hue until a new shade catches my fancy.  Currently, yellow* has my undivided attention, and I don't see my fascination with it ending anytime soon.  Lemon, banana, mustard, neon and sunshine yellow all have happy homes in my wardrobe so I thought I'd share a few of my current crush-worthy pieces.

Pale:  This dress is one of my summertime favorites, I love the color, pleated neckline, sash and pockets.  Unfortunately, it's linen which means I look like a mess before I get to my desk in the morning.
Dress - Cynthia Steffe, Necklace - Chatham, MA., Shoes - RocketDog

Bright: I love anything with ruffles, so when I spotted this bright top at Forever 21 last summer I knew it needed to leave with me.  For being a bright, frilly piece it's far more versatile than I originally thought.
Shirt- Forever 21, Shorts - Old Navy, Belt - Marshall's, Bag - Kate Spade,  Scarf- Vintage, Shoes - Seychelles

Electric:  Old Navy sales are hard to beat; I picked this neon yellow shirt dress back in the spring for $7.99.  It's such an easy piece to dress up or down and transition into cooler weather with fun tights and leggings.
Dress- Old Navy, Shoes - Steve Madden, Necklace - Le Mode Accessories, Earrings - Chatham, MA.

Have you been crushing on any colors lately?

*I really wanted to start this post with "They call me Mellow Yellow" from the old song but then I looked up what the song was about and decided better of it. I think I liked it better when it was about tripping on banana peels.

Wednesday's Wardrobe: Summer Lilly Lovin'

Maybe it's my roots in New England, or my love of quirky patterns, bright colors and special details, or maybe something else feed my undying summer love of all things Lilly.  I don't consider myself to be very preppy in my style even though I sail a mean boat.  My love of Lilly Pulitzer stems from my youth when my mom and I would try to find "Lilly" in each of my dress prints.  We still hunt vintage Lilly in the same "find the name" way.  Needless to say, when the summer days turn hot and I long for days at my parent's summer house the Lilly comes out in full force.  Here are some of my favorite Lilly pieces.

Shirt - Marshall's, Tank - Old Navy, Shorts - Lilly Pulitzer, Shoes - Kino of Key West

Shirt - Ann Taylor Loft, Skirt - Lilly Pulitzer, Shoes - Nine West, Bag - Kate Spade, Earrings - loulou, Pin - gift

Dress - Lilly Pulitzer, Sweater - Marshall's, Shoes - Anthropologie, Earrings - Gift, Cuff - Banana Republic

Is there any clothing or designer that epitomizes summertime for you?!?  I would love to hear!
