You probably don't know this but perusing the J.Crew catalog is one of my favorite pastimes. I jest, but seriously who doesn't draw inspiration from their carefully edited catalogs? Those glossy pages hold so many interesting color combinations, pattern mixing tips and layers, not to mention all of those beautiful red colors! As much I admire their ability to put together outfits, I don't buy many things from J.Crew. Their prices are a little steep for me but that does not stop me from re-creating the looks I see on their pretty pages. Here are two I've re-crew-ated.

Gotta love my ripped page edge there, but I loved the idea of pairing two hot colors, mint and cobalt together for work |

White Shirt - Marshall's, Tank - Old Navy, Pants - Loft (similar here), Shoes - Seychelles, Bracelet - Banana Republic, Earrings - Eastern Market |
Again, I love how J.Crew pairs unexpected colors (at least to me) like pastel purple and pastel yellow with black and coral. I actually switched to a coral and black necklace after I took these pictures but didn't get a picture. Doh!

Shirt - Lulu*s, Jeans - DKNY, Shoes - Tory Burch (similar here), Necklace - DIY |
Where do you get your wardrobe inspiration? Am I the only one who still rips up magazines and catalogs in this Pinterest-obsessed world?

I love this post! J. Crew is definitely out of my price range (I'm a more F21 kind of girl) so I loved this post. The 2nd look is my favorite look that you have done for sure!

Oh I love both looks! I think the second one is my favorite. The purple and yellow look really great on you!
Hi Cara :) You've done so well at getting the look of your inspiration pictures. I love both outfits, especially the violet shirt! And it's so funny ... only yesterday I was wondering why I haven't come across a post on Gazpacho on any blogs and lo and behold, you have one! It is so delicious ... I must make some.
i love reading through the j crew catalogue! i actually wrote about a j crew CNBC special today on the blog. i remember jenna lyon saying that each j crew piece isn't that great, it is how they piece them together which is amazing. and that is also why you will continue to open your mailbox to find your "style guide."

I love your interpretation of these outfits. Both color combos are killer. I actually have pictures ripped out and post on my closet door. While I love pinterest, I don't sit in front of my computer while deciding on an outfit so having pictures in print in front of my face is way more helpful!

The JCrew catalog puts me in prepster heaven :) I can't afford most of the stuff they have though so I love how you recreated the looks with more affordable pieces! I'm a new follower :)

Awesome job Cara! I love their catalogs too! The vivid colors, styles and location always get me. I usually by their shoes, because as you mentioned the prices are very steep. I love both of your outfits! That purple and yellow is smashing girl! hahaha Love it!
