Fashionista or Frugalista? Cape Quest!

A Beautiful cape on Holly via The Sartorialist

As a self-proclaimed slave to fashion, I am always shopping; in stores, online, past windows, people, and through magazines full of thumb-tabbed pages. Since I am constantly in pursuit of cute clothes, I am not one to turn down a good deal when I see one. This should be fairly evident based on the number of outfits I cobble together from my beloved Marshalls, Target and Filene's Basement. Alternately, when a piece is so special that nothing else will compare, I'm happy to pull the extra bucks out of the back of my wallet and splurge. That being said, I really want a cape for fall. I know capes are trendy, but I wanted one last year and I firmly believe a well crafted, wool, neutral color cape will be wearable far into the future.
With so many beautiful options out there, should I save or spend? In other words, should I be a frugalista or a fashionista?  Here's a few options ranging from super reasonable to somewhat splurgy.
Nordstrom Rack - $69.99
BB Dakota via Piperlime - $89.00,                                                Modcloth - $99.99
Calvin Klein via Macy's - $154.00
Via Spiga via Macy's - $154.00

So, what do you think, or do you know of any other $200 and under options?  I'll be cape questing this weekend, taking myself to a movie (or two) and brunching with some of my favorite girls.

I'd definitely get the black via spiga one...that is definitely very edgy and chic! I also like the red one from Mod Cloth, I could see that one you especially with the various styles of outfits I've seen, that would be a gorgeous option for you! Can't wait to see what you decide on!

i love a cape! i think i like the shape of the via spiga one but of course the red one is pretty awesome just cuz it's so very bright!!! i actually saw the missoni for target cape for little kids and seriously considered getting one (in an XL). but that one is more like a shawl. and i think a better purchase is a classic one like the ones you showed.

I want a cape this fall too. I tend to spurge on coats and jackets, especially fall/winter ones just because you NEED them, right ;)

Hi Cara, so nice to meet you and follow along as well. I just found a cape at my local church thrift store for 3 bucks. Looking forward to more inspiration. Have a great weekend. Dawn Suitcase Vignettes xo

Nice selection, and I agree with Bessie as I would go for the Via Spiga. I would like to buy a cape as well and I think I found the right one for me: the navy one on the mainpage of the website http://www.rueblanche.com/site/. I think I'm going to write a post about it pretty soon...

Cara, thank you so much for the lovely comment!

I wish I had some advice to give regarding capes, but I'm afraid I've always been afraid to wear them, thus never took notice of them in stores. There is one exception, but it's well over $200. The BONNIE TATTERSALL CAPE

Oh, capes, I've loved them for so long now, but I might have to take the plunge this year too. I think the Macy's options look great! It might just be the pictures, but they look like they're of better quality and more interesting shapes and details, though they're not that much more expensive than the other options.

I LOVE capes as well! I stole my mom's cape from the 70's this summer and brought it with me to London! (I'm so surprised its still in impeccable state!).

When it comes to outwear I usually tend to splurge a bit more as I buy things which are more on the classic side and I can wear for a lot fo seasons... from what you have picked here, I absolutely loved the Calvin Klen via Macy's cape.
