Frugalista vs. Fashionista: Pencil (Skirt) Me In

I'm back with another edition of Frugalista versus Fashionista, and this time I want your help penciling in a new skirt for fall.  Pardon the pun, but a colorful pencil skirt is on my wishlist for Fall, and since we're still having balmy weather round these parts, I still have plenty of time to weigh my options.

This first option is from J.C. Penney, a store I rarely frequent as I have no idea where the nearest one is.  However, that's the glory of television and online shopping.  I was totally drawn to this skirt in their commercial, and lo and behold it appears to be a VERY frugal-friendly option.

J.C. Penney - $29.99

I was torn over what mid-level option to show here, so I'm showing two.  I really like the color blocking on the Express skirt, yet another store I haven't frequented since freshman year of college, i.e the last Stone Age.

Express skirt - $69.50

I'm really drawn to the following skirt, as teal is the it color for fall or so Real Simple magazine tells me.  I also appreciate this silhouette being available in a petite length for my petite legs.

Nordstrom  -$69.00

And then there's the always consistent, beautiful J.Crew.  I want their entire fall catalog but that's besides the point.  Their colorful wool pencil skirts are what started my whole pencil skirt crush. I want one in every color, or just Spicy Gold, Vibrant Flame or Viridian Green if I must decide.  And they have petite lengths too!

J.Crew - $120.00

So what do you think, should I splurge or settle?

Gosh I do have to say I love the ones from express and jcrew! Too bad you couldn't check out the quality of the JCPenney one in person. I have luck with their I Heart Ronson line but I haven't ventured into other parts of the store in a long time.

Quite a few of my pencil skirts are from JC Penney. I hadn't gone there in years and scowled when my mom suggested I look there when I first started working and needed to stock my entire wardrobe. A lot of their skirts are actually really cute and the quality has held up well. I do have some skirts from Express, Banana Republic, and Talbots that I have splurged on because if you take good care of them they will last for years!

I think pencil skirts are a great investment as there are so many ways to style it up for a formal event or down for a fun, casual get-together!

I'd go with the teal or yellow! Yellow is in this season, but the teal will always be in. So it just depends on how often you want to wear it. :D
Following you now. Look forward to your future posts.

I actually prefer the save option- I think the purple J Crew skirt is such a fun colour for fall and the length is perfect!

I would go for the j.crew! I've been eyeing that one and it is wool and fully lined. The express skirt will go on sale, or if you'd like I'd be thrilled to send you an email with one of their coupons! Good luck with your decision!

This is so crazy - I NEVER shop at JC Penney but after seeing the commercial, I too want to go try on that skirt! I also have heard really good things about their MNG Mango line. I am usually a quality over savings girl - but I would at least try on the JC Penney skirt, because for that low of a price, the fabric could be really cheap. I tried on the No. 2 skirt at J. Crew and it is gorgeous, however $120 is just a little too high for me. I'm hoping they drop the price, and I think they will eventually. Of course my fave color/size is sold out until JANUARY. Ridiculous!

I'm all about the pencil skirt right now and I have to say, I don't really care about the price so long as it fits well. And that kind of depends on what brand works best for you - ya know?
