Friday's Fancies - Fall-ing in Love

Leather, and peplum and peter pan collars.....these are a few of my favorite things, for fall so far so when {AV} asked us to put together our fall lust list I had participate. I love the return of really rich colors, textures and patterns.  I seriously want all of these things to get into my closet ASAP....especially the Kate Spade polka dot heels and the leather accented peplum. To see what everyone else is craving for fall pop over to {AV}'s blog and have a look. You too might fall in love.  Have a wonderful weekend!

Friday's Fancies - Cinco De Mayo

Who's ready for some chips and guacomole?!? I know I am. I would love to sip a margarita and munch on some chips in this colorful ensemble. This tribal-inspired necklace is such a colorful statement piece, it requires minimal effort elsewhere. When I spotted these linen pants in the J.Crew catalog this week, I wanted to pair them with this necklace and build a look around it. Check out the other Cinco De Mayo/Kentucky Derby looks over on Long Distance Loving. Have a great weekend!

Friday's Fancies: Date Night

Friday's Fancies: Date Night

My husband planned a great date night for last Saturday night. He nabbed a reservation at a restaurnt we've been eager to try, scouted a bar for a post dinner drink and got tickets to a late night comedy show. I would love to have worn something like this on our night out. Date nights are the perfect excuse to wear your most fun and frivolous shoes. I spotted these crazy shoes, and had to build an outfit around them! I always finish my date night looks with a bright lip. Check out all the other date night looks over on AV's blog!

Friday's Fancies: Picnic Primped

Picnic Primped

I have been in love with these J.Crew scalloped shorts since they first appeared in the catalog. When I spotted this adorable Kate Spade wicker basket I knew I was going to build my picnic look around these two pieces. I think this look would be adorable with minimal jewelry, sunglasses and loose waves with a fedora or fun head scarf.

Friday's Fancies - Pretty in Pastels

This week {AV} asked us to create Friday's Fancies based on our favorite pastel items. Pale purple jeans are on my wish list for spring, so I decided to build a pastel outfit around them. Pastels are great because they can add the perfect pop of color to an otherwise neutral outfit or can be layered on top of each other for a more bold ensemble. I love so many of these pieces, but those shoes are totally calling my name!

Laura Takes L.A. - a wardrobe update

Laura Takes LA!

Who's excited for the Oscars tonight?  I would be, if I wasn't going to be in Aruba! Speaking of fashion in L.A., a friend of mine recently moved to Los Angeles to begin a new life on the other coast. She wanted to update her East Coast wardrobe to include pieces more representative of California style. She asked me to put together an inspiration board for her of jeans-based looks since she works from home and has a little one to chase around.  I built 6 interchangeable looks based on skinny jeans, boyfriend jeans and boot cut jeans.  To me, L.A. has a very easy and laid back style (see Jessica Alba) so I relied heavily on flowy, light pieces that can easily be layered and dressed up with great jewelry, fun sunglasses, hat or cool satchel.

So how do you think I did, is there anything you think is quintessentially Californian/L.A. that I missed?  Have you ever updated your wardrobe to better fit your location?

I love making these inspiration boards so if you have any requests or suggestions, I am all ears!

Dressing for the Dogs

Dressing for the Dogs

For Christmas my sister-in-law got me a blog makeover, wahoo! I'm so excited to leave my pink blog in my past AND to finally have a menu organizing all of my randomness.  So in return, I put together some looks for her and her brand spankin new career.  Back in November she took a leap of faith and started her own dog walking business.  While she spends her days playing with pups she doesn't want to look like a schlubby dog walker.  She expressed interest in exploring leggings/jegging-based looks so I pulled together this board for her.

I wanted to give her affordable, comfortable clothes in sturdy fabrics that can be washed easily, layered or worn separately. Even if you have J.Lo's butt, pairing a longer top with your leggings is a must (in my humble opinion.) The red top and mauve sweater are mid-thigh but not so long that the pups could grab the bottom and begin a game of tug-of-war.  Also, if you are wearing a fitted bottom the top should be looser to even out the proportions.

I kept the boots simple, flat and neutral. Both pairs of boots are functional but also fashionable for long walks by the lake.  The accessories are minimal because dogs get dirty, and again I didn't want to put too much out there that they could grab hold of.  Bib necklaces, colorful belts worn at the wait and bandanna scarves are easy ways to bring the eye up to the face and dress up a basic look.  Some simple earrings, or thin bangle would be fun as well. I also love cute hats for winter and think she'd look great in a fun yet warm beanie.

Have a great weekend, I have 13 miles to run, soup to make and football to watch. What are you up to?
